Get Excellent Results When
Finishing Your Drywall
We all want to have a better looking interior in our homes. This is why
we spend a lot of money in finishing our drywalls. In fact, some people
even hire interior decorators and designers to finish drywalls. This
can prove to be very costly and if you want to save money, you can try
doing the project yourself.
Before you attempt this kind of project, you have to remember that
finishing drywall is a craft that requires a lot of skill. This kind of
skill can take years to master and perfect but if you are a serious
do-it-yourselfer, you will find that you will be able to do a great job
with excellent results.
When embarking on this kind of project, you have to keep in mind that
you have to have all the proper tools in order for you to avoid making
mistakes as you work in finishing your drywall. Besides, there’s
nothing more frustrating to find out you are missing some tools when
you are halfway done with your work.
You will need good quality tools to work with. It is highly recommended
that you should never start on any drywall finishing projects if you
don’t have quality tools with you. For starters, you may want to get
different drywall knives in various sizes. Each particular knife will
work better in certain places and situations. But, if you are not a
professional drywall finisher, you wouldn’t want to purchase all these
knives. It is recommended that you get at least three different drywall
knives.
If you are going to apply drywall tape, it is recommended that you use
3”, 4”, and 6” knife. Go for the one that you are most comfortable with
and you have to remember that you need to choose accordingly.
For bedding the tape down or applying a second application, you may
want to use a 10” or 12” knife. For the final float or application, you
should get a 12” or even a 14” knife to get the job done.
Stainless steel knives are great but they can be stiff and harder to
work with. Blue steel knives are great because they are more flexible,
which will make it easier for you to work with than with the stainless
steel blades. The only problem with the blue steel knives is that they
are prone to rusting when you leave it in water for too long.
The proper tools are essential if you want to have excellent results
when finishing drywall. Always keep in mind that drywall finishing
requires a lot of skills. You have to be patient and you need to have
the proper tools to work with.
By having the proper tools, you can be sure that you will be able to
get the best results possible when finishing your drywall. Today, you
will be able to find all the tools you need for drywall finishing in
almost any hardware or hobby stores. Just remember that cheap doesn’t
always mean good.
Go for tools that are known to provide great quality and tools that
will be able to get the job done efficiently and give you near-perfect
results.
